Look for NASA Super Guppy Saturday morning

The Seattle metro area should get a look Saturday morning at NASA’s odd-shaped Super Guppy cargo plane before it lands at Boeing Field to deliver the front section of the wooden space shuttle mock-up called the FFT.

Museum of Flight officials say the Guppy, on the final leg of its 3.5-day journey from Houston, is scheduled to pass over the museum about 10:40 a.m., then fly over downtown Seattle and the Space Needle about 10:45, cross over the east side of Lake Washington and fly over Everett’s Paine Field by about 10:50, then circle south along the Puget Sound shoreline to land at Boeing Field at 11.

The Super Guppy, a bubbleheaded, turboprop cargo plane, is expected to fly the Seattle circle at an altitude of 800 to 1,000 feet.

An 11:45 a.m. ceremony outside the Museum of Flight, 9404 East Marginal Way S., will welcome the Guppy and its cargo, the crew compartment of NASA’s Full Fuselage Trainer, which is to be permanently housed in the museum’s Space Gallery.

The museum opens at 9:30 a.m. Its main parking lot will be closed to accommodate the celebration, with visitors directed to other lots. Details: www.museumofflight.org
