Morning Memo / Monday: Rifles and fireworks … Lost hikers … Gas prices fall

Weather:  Showers later today, light rain tomorrow, but no rain and 73 degrees Wednesday and 75 and no rain Thursday. Be patient. OK, drizzle Friday, but this is Seattle. The National Weather Service forecast.

Hikers waiting to be rescued near North Bend: Five hikers who lost their way down Mailbox Peak east of North Bend were expected to be led down the mountain by King County sheriff’s deputies this morning, now that there’s daylight, according to KING5. The sheriff’s office said six hikers got separated on the peak yesterday. One hiker made his way down and contacted authorities.

Rifles and fireworks start blaze in Kitsap County: KING5 reports this morning that a fire in some tires in a wrecking yard in Belfair was started when someone target-shooting caused a fire, which ignited commercial-grade fireworks stored at Belfair Truck and Auto Wrecking. The fire was still smoldering this morning. A couple of people were being questioned.

Everett fire sends woman to hospital: A fire in an apartment building in Everett late last night sent a woman to the hospital. Firefighters found the 72-year-old woman in her smoke-filled apartment, although the apartment’s sprinkler had extinguished the blaze, according to the Everett Fire Department. The woman was taken to the hospital where she was first reported in serious condition, but news outlets later reported her in critical condition.

Gasoline prices continue to fall: AAA of Washington reports that the average price of gas in Washington is $3.78, a 20-cent drop from a week ago, but still 47 cents higher than the national average. Some of the numbers : Bellingham $3.87, Bremerton $3.67, Seattle-Bellevue-Everett $3.81, Tacoma $3.71, Olympia $3.69, Vancouver $3.70, Yakima $3.88, Tri-Cities $3.84, Spokane $3.80.
