Morning Memo/Saturday: M’s no-hit Dodgers … Sodo traffic … Seattle violence

Weather: Chance of showers with a high near 61. We’ll take it, especially after this week’s rain and cold.  The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The Sodo area will likely be a mess this afternoon with two overlapping events. The University of Washington commencement ceremony is from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at CenturyLink, and the Mariners play the Dodgers at Safeco at 4:15 p.m. The map and cams.

Speaking of the Mariners: The Mariners used six pitchers to no-hit the L.A. Dodgers in front of 22,028 spectators Friday night. (The writer of this blog post had the good luck to be among those fans.) The no-hitter was the third in the Mariners’ 35-year history and the 10th combined no-hitter in MLB history.

If you missed it: In his first interview since his wife, Gloria Koch Leonidas, was fatally shot downtown by Ian Stawicki, Tom Leonidas called his wife “a fighter.” He thanked the city for supporting his family through their grief, and in a statement of compassion, said this:

“There were other victims … And we have to be respectful of the fact that (the shooter’s) family lost a loved one, too.”

More gun violence: Two young people were injured by a gunshot Friday at South Dearborn and Rainier Avenue South. Police arrested a suspect in a store near the shooting scene. Mayor Mike McGinn and police officials plan to speak at a Town Hall community meeting on June 18 to discuss the recent gun violence in the city. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 21 homicides, one more than in all of last year.
