Morning Memo/Thursday: Sports arena rally … body found … wildfire

Weather:  Cloudy with sun breaks today. Yeah, right. But tomorrow, ah, tomorrow. Mostly cloudy (aka, mostly sunny), no rain and a high of 66 degrees. Why are the high temperature forecasts on our weather chart always lower than the forecasts by everyone else? Time to check those other forecasts for their high temp predictions for tomorrow: KING5: 73; KIRO: 74; KOMO: 72. We like those number much better. We’re ignoring the forecasts for rain Saturday and Sunday. The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The area around Occidental Park in Seattle could be a bit messy during the afternoon commute due to the sports arena rally (see next item). The map and cams.

Sonics rally: Thousands are expected to gather in Seattle’s Occidental Park at 4 p.m. today to shout their support for an NBA team in the Emerald City. Some big name former Sonics are expected to be there along with some of the big buck backers of the proposed sports venue. The rally organizers even have a Facebook page. We’ll keep you posted.

Body of missing man found near Tacoma: KIRO is reporting that a man’s body was found by Pierce County sheriff’s deputies in a pickup at an apartment complex yesterday. Not many details available yet.

Google Maps

A wildfire in our state: We suppose it was only a matter of time before one occurred in Washington. We’ve seen our share of wildfires in years past. This one has charred 1,500 acres of sagebrush and grass between Othello and Royal City in Central Washington, KXLY reports.

King County deputy prosecutor on paid leave: We’re waiting to see what the connection is, if any, between a King County deputy prosecutor and a former Husky basketball star who’s been charged with harassing a former girlfriend. Police are investigating.
