Morning Memo/Tuesday: Microsoft’s tablet … Psych patient escapes … Green River victim

Weather: My, my, this rain, these clouds, these cool temperatures. Still wearing jackets and rain gear? We are. Summer starts tomorrow, yeah? Well, there’s no rain forecast for tomorrow, and Thursday and there might even be some sun. Let’s cross our fingers, because light rain is expected to return Friday. The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The map and cams.

Psychiatric patient runs amok: A psychiatric patient was being taken by ambulance from Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, Wash., to Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake when he got free of his restraints, forced his way into the cab and bit the driver’s hand, KXLY reports. He then got out of the ambulance and ran away. He came upon a farmhouse and threw a rock through a window. Troopers later found him hiding under a bridge.

Microsoft’s new tablet: Now that the biggest name in software is going up against Apple’s iPad with its new tablet/computer dubbed the Surface, might you give it a try? Take the poll.

The tragic saga of the Green River killer will go on for years to come, as evidenced by the announcement yesterday that one of four unidentified victims has been identified. The killer, Gary Ridgway,  admitted to nearly 70 slayings, but at the time prosecutors said they had evidence linking him to only 48 cases. He is serving a sentence of life without the possibility of release at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.

South Carolina-made Boeing 787 makes another test flight. The first 787 assembled in South Carolina has made another test flight. It’s the fourth flight for the plane made at  Boeings $750 million assembly plant that opened in North Charleston last year. The Post and Courier of Charleston has the story.
