2 deputies shot in Spokane; suspect shoots self

UPDATE, 10:40 p.m. | The two deputies  in stable condition, and “both are expected to make a recovery, ” according to Spokane Officer Jennifer DeRuwe.

UPDATE, 5:28 p.m. | After a high-speed chase, the suspect shot himself, The Spokesman-Review reports.

SPOKANE –– Witnesses say two Spokane County sheriff’s deputies have been shot and wounded in the north Spokane area.

A man and woman who say they saw the officers fall to the ground and saw a black vehicle speed away told KREM-TV they ran to help. They say the officers were both talking as medics arrived to take them to hospitals.

Multiple law-enforcement agencies are converging on the area where the deputies were shot Tuesday afternoon.
