Recovery of Mount Rainier ranger’s body on hold until mid-week

Efforts to recover the body of Mount Rainier National Park climbing ranger Nick Hall are on hold, likely until mid-week, because of poor weather conditions.

A rescue crew hoped to reach Hall, who died Thursday, during a short window of favorable weather Sunday, but that effort was unsuccessful, said National Park Service spokeswoman Jacqueline Ashwell. The next opportunity likely won’t be until Tuesday at the earliest, she said.

The family has asked that donations in honor of Nick Hall, in lieu of flowers, be made through the following accounts:

Nick Hall Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 431, Patten, ME 04765, which will fund search and rescue in Maine and cover the Hall family’s travel expenses; and MORA Search and Rescue Fund, 55210 238th Ave. E., Ashford, WA 98304.
