A locomotive traveling less than 5 mph hit a trailer at Boeing’s Everett complex at 10 a.m. Monday, spilling some aviation fuel.

The collision happened on Perimeter Road near gate E-70, during routine switching operations, said BNSF Railway spokesman Gus Melonas. The locomotive was operated by a BNSF engineer, not remote-controlled, he said.

A train worker reported that a fuel truck towing a “pup trailer” was passing through a crossing, while the lights were flashing, and the locomotive T-boned the trailer, according to Melonas. Fuel spilled, but there were no injuries or fires, he said.
