Two-year-old boy drowns in Clear Lake, Thurston County

A two-year-old boy who wandered away from family members has drowned in a lake northeast of Olympia, authorities said.

Sgt. Alvin Griffin with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said the boy had been playing with his older brother and cousin in a neighborhood near Clear Lake  on Saturday morning when he disappeared.

“They’re fast and inquisitive at that age and they can disappear quickly,” said Griffin.

The boy’s mother found him in the lake just a short time later and 911 was called at 10:15 a.m., he said.

Griffin said CPR was administered by family members and paramedics, but the child could not be saved.
