UPDATE: 1 killed, 5 injured in shooting at South Seattle house party

[do action=”inline-update-tag” uniqueid=”1352″ updatetime=”1:52 p.m.”/] Seattle police now reports that one of the victims of this morning’s shooting, a 21 year-old woman, has died at Harborview of a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

Also injured were two females, 17 and 18 years-old, two 20-year-old men, and a 21-year-old man.

[do action=”inline-update-tag” uniqueid=”1328″ updatetime=”1:28 p.m.”/] Six people were injured during a shooting early Sunday at a boisterous  South Seattle house party.

One of the victims, a young woman,  suffered “life-threatening injuries,” according to Seattle police and witnesses. She is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center. Five of the victims were taken via ambulance to Harborview; a sixth made their own way to the hospital.

Drew Jones, owner of the house near the intersection of Renton Avenue South and Lindsey Place South, said the party was a summer celebration attended mostly by college students and recent  graduates.  The festivities ended about 1:30 and people were exiting the big backyard when unidentified shooters opened fire in the front yard, Jones said.  “They were just firing into the crowd,” said Jones, who saw at least two gunmen.

Earlier in the evening, Jones’ son, Andrew, the party’s main host was arrested along with his girlfrend on domestic violence charges after a fight. A noise complaint from neighbors also brought police to the party for a second time. Jones estimated up to 300 people were in attendance.

Gabrielle Kadushin, 21,  was in the back yard cleaning up when she heard the shots. “I thought it was firecrackers at first,” she said. She dove for the edge of the stage where a DJ had been performing for the crowd. Her brother was shot in the face, but Kadushin said he will be fine after undergoing surgery at Harborview.

Other witnesses told Seattle police that shots hit both men and women. The gravely wounded young woman was lying in the driveway, Kadushin said.  Despite a large police call-out to the shooting, it took officers about 15 minutes to secure the scene, according to Seattle police.

Seattle police spokesman Mark Jamieson said detectives were working on a description of the alleged shooter or shooters. Officers reported seeking at least two people. Between 20 and 30 shell casings were found at the scene.

Jones said police are also reviewing the many photos and videos shot by party-goers, for clues to the shooters’ identities.

“These people at the party were college kids,  trying to better their lives,” he said.  “They’re getting ready to enter the professional world.”
