Attempted kidnapping at Burien supermarket

A 43-year-old man was arrested in Burien on Friday night after allegedly trying to drag a supermarket employee into his van from the store’s parking lot.

Around 5 p.m., the 21-year-old Albertsons employee was collecting carts in the lot, in the 12800 block of First Avenue South, when she was approached by the man, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office. He initially told her there was a cart near his van. Then he asked if she wanted to see the refrigerator in his van. Finally, he grabbed her arm and attempted to pull her inside, according to Sgt. Pat McCurdy.

At that point, someone called 911 and ran to help the employee. She got away and ran inside the store to hide, but the suspect followed her, McCurdy said in a news release.

The suspect was arrested as he left the store and booked into the King County Jail.

The employee, who did not know the man, was “very shaken up after the incident,” according to the sheriff’s office.
