Ballard Locks to close temporarily on Wednesday
An inspection of the Adult Salmon Exclusion Structure will close the Chittenden Locks in Ballard to all marine traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
U.S. Navy divers will be also adjusting a water-quality sensor cable near the structure, which is immediately upstream from the locks. The salmon exclusion structure prevents salmon from entering the locks’ saltwater return intake.
“The staff will make maximum efforts to complete the work as soon and as safely as possible,” said U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokesman Bill Dowell in a statement.
Wednesday afternoon, boaters may call the lockmaster on duty at 206-783-7000 to verify the locks are open.
