Explosive device injures man, damages Ballard parking meter

Photo by Erika Schultz / The Seattle Times

In what Seattle police are calling an act of vandalism gone awry, an explosive device attached to a electronic parking meter in Ballard blew up early Sunday, injuring one man and severely damaging the meter.

The injured man said he and a friend was walking near Northwest 54th Street and 32nd Avenue Northwest when he heard an explosion, according to police. The man was struck in the arm by something and was bleeding. He was treated at Swedish Medical Center in Ballard. His injuries were not life threatening.

The police arson and bomb squad responded and are still investigating.
