Fire destroys restaurant on Bainbridge Island

An early morning fire destroyed a bar and restaurant on Bainbridge Island this morning.

Firefighters responding to a call from a passerby around 4:44 a.m. found the 122 Bar and Restaurant, at 241 Winslow Way W., fully engulfed — with flames shooting through the roof, Fire Marshall Luke Carpenter said.

Carpenter said firefighters did not attempt to enter the building but contained the blaze from outside by putting water on the roof and through the windows.

“It wasn’t worth risking lives for,” he said.

Firefighters also kept water on a nearby business to protect it from damage. No injuries were  reported.

Carpenter said the stand-alone structure, built in 1984, had been home to the restaurant-bar for the past year and a half.

Firefighters from Poulsbo, North Kitsap and Bangor Naval Base fire departments also responded.

Carpenter said because of the extent of the damage, officials were not immediately able to determine the cause and were interviewing owners and employees as part of their investigation.
