University Place climber John Wright found dead near Green Mountain

The body of missing climber John Wright was found by searchers Monday afternoon at the 3,400 foot level in the Green Mountain area of the Snoqualmie National Forest.

Wright fell several hundred feet while climbing near treacherous terrain and did not appear to have survived the fall, said Sgt. Cindi West of the King C0unty Sheriff’s Office.  Earlier Monday, rescuers had reported finding Wright’s footprints near a cliff where he fell.

Wright’s body is expected to be recovered by a helicopter later today, said West. Wright, 50, of University Place, was reported missing Friday after he failed to pick up his daughter.

Search and rescue teams have been scouring the area since then and on Monday a helicopter,12 horses and 40 searchers were on the mountain Monday looking for Wright, West said.

Wright’s family said that he was an experienced climber and were devastated by the news, said West.
