Morning Memo/Friday: Crazy weather … Discovery Park shootings … Chihuahua rescued

Weather: You’re probably getting as tired of this crazy weather as we are. Thunder and lightning overnight, again. A lot of rain, too. There are reports of some 300 lightning strikes in our area.

What’s more, there are flash-flood warnings in most of  Eastern Washington as storms pass through. See our story from earlier this week on why this is happening.

Otherwise, it’s going to be cooler today and through the weekend with temperatures in just the mid- to upper 60s, although no rain or drizzle is expected. The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The map and cams.

Discovery Park shootings: In yet another shooting in Seattle involving young people, two teens were wounded in Discovery Park this morning. Police say one of the victims knew the shooter. What’s going on in this city?

Cafe Racer grand reopening: The cafe where four people were gunned down and one wounded has been repaired and spruced up and will celebrate its reopening at 8 a.m. today. We’ll be there and bring you a story and photos.

Chihuahua nabbed: A couple of teens tried to walk away from an animal shelter in Olympia Wednesday, but the caper was stopped in its tracks by shelter workers and some patrons. The Olympian reports that the would-be thieves had put the pup in a backpack and strolled out of the Thurston County Animal Services. A customer who was at the shelter followed the suspects and snatched the backpack away from the girl. The Chihuahua, Machoman, was unhurt.

Speaking of dogs: A woman had to be rescued in a Port Townsend park after she climbed part way down a 200-foot embankment to get her dog and got stranded. Her yells alerted folks on the beach below who called rescuers. All ended well.
