Morning Memo/Monday: Crash with deputy … Kid, candle, fire … Hope Solo

Weather: Cloudy for the first half of the day with a chance of sun this afternoon. The chart says drizzle today and tomorrow, but we’re ignoring that. Partly cloudy or sunny the rest of the week, and by Friday temperatures could reach the upper 70s or the low 80s. Welcome back, summer. The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The map and cams.

You can’t outrun the law: At least this woman couldn’t. She was driving on Highway 18  in Auburn yesterday when she saw a King County deputy’s car and sped off. He chased her — and she ended up crashing into his car.  He suffered back and neck injuries, and she was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault and eluding police. What was she thinking, and why was she running?

Uh oh, Richland’s Hope Solo, the often outspoken U.S. Women’s goal keeper, got herself into a bit of a, well, you decide, when she tweeted her displeasure at remarks made by former U.S. standout Brandi Chastain in a broadcast about the women’s defensive play at an Olympic match the other day.

Kid playing with candle: This happens all too often. A 5-year-old started a house fire yesterday in Spokane while playing with a candle. Luckily, everyone got out safely, but the rental home suffered a lot of damage.

Whoa. Big fine looming as the trash haulers’ strike continues: The city of Seattle has told Waste Management that it could be fined up to a whopping $1.25 million A DAY starting Wednesday if striking trash haulers aren’t back on the job.
