Morning Memo/Tuesday: Teacher sex … Auburn stabbing … Bellevue toy drive

Weather:  Here’s hoping today will be the last day of gloom and rain for a while. Showers have already sprinkled the city this morning, and highs are expected in the low 60s, but tomorrow is forecast as the kickoff of a stretch of drier, increasingly warmer weather. The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic:  Starting today, the I-90 express lanes will stay open eastbound only until 12:01 a.m. Thursday, when they will close and reopen westbound. There’s also a Mariners game at 7:10 tonight that could cause backups at Safeco Field. The map and cams.

Today we have more information on the city’s 22nd homicide victim, Sherry Soth. The 21-year-old “savvy and chic” fashionista was fatally wounded as she was leaving a house party in South Seattle early Sunday.  Police have said they are looking for two or more shooters but have not released details about their possible identities or reasons for the gunfire.

A Tacoma middle school teacher is charged with having sex with a student, The Tacoma News Tribune reports. Keshia T. Shaw faces five counts of second-degree child rape  for incidents alleged to have happened three or four times between April 2007 and December 2008. Read The News Tribune’s full report.

A man was stabbed to death in Auburn last night while trying to break up a fight between a man and a woman, the AP reports The 23-year-old, reportedly a neighbor, staggered into the street, where he died, police said.

Ready to get into the holiday spirit? Yes, we know summer hasn’t really started yet, but the City of Bellevue is already collecting holiday donations for infants, children and teens.  Nine Bellevue fire  stations are collecting food and toys during the month of July for children attending the Crossroads Community Center’s annual holiday party in December.
