Morning Memo/Saturday: Traffic snarls … Ballard shooting … Milk Carton Derby

Weather: Expect areas of fog to hang around until late morning, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. The weather should clear to partly sunny skies later today, with a high in the upper 70s. Likely not as exciting as yesterday’s impromptu lightning storm. The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: Roads may be snarled this weekend from multiple road closures and weekend events, including:

• Highway 520 closed from Montlake Boulevard to the I-405 on-ramps until early Monday.

• Pine Street at Broadway closed to east- and westbound traffic until early Monday.

The Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic starts from the University of Washington, and is expected to cause traffic delays as it heads south toward Portland. The map and cams.

Ballard shooting: A man and a woman were shot inside a Ballard apartment early Saturday and transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The woman’s daughter told police the shooter was her mother’s ex-boyfriend, who has been arrested.

Seafair Milk Carton Derby: Up to 100 colorful boats built with milk cartons or jugs will race at Green Lake today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No engines are permitted, sails are allowed only as decoration, and the boats must float by milk containers alone, though creative decorations abound above the waterline.
