Mount Rainier trail partially closed due to avalanche debris

Avalanche debris have shut down part of the Comet Falls Trail (Mount Rainier National Park)

If you were planning to hike around Mount Rainier National Park this weekend, steer clear of the Comet Falls Trail.

Avalanche debris has closed part of the Comet Falls Trail from approximately one quarter mile below the falls to the river crossing above the falls in Van Trump Park.

In addition to making the trail impassable a park release said, the avalanche debris from the Van Trump drainage could contain hidden pockets; a fall into one of them could be fatal.
