Woman dead, 4 in hospital after multi-car crash near Magnolia Bridge

UPDATE, 3:48 p.m. | The woman sent to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition died Tuesday afternoon, said hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg.

Five people were injured, including one critically, in a multi-car crash south of the Magnolia Bridge Tuesday morning.

One vehicle was so badly damaged that the roof of car and the steering wheel had to be cut to remove the woman inside, according to Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore. The woman, in her 50s, was the most seriously hurt in the pile up.

All five of the people were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment, including the woman who was critically injured.

Seattle police had initially said that four people were hurt in the crash.

Traffic in the area was backed up f0r a long time this morning as police investigated the accident, the injured were taken away and the scene was cleared.

The cause of the crash continues to be investigated.
