Missing Polyclinic doctor found safe on Mount Adams

Dr. Peter Baciewicz (The Polyclinic)

The Polyclinic’s Dr. Peter Baciewicz, a cardiologist who had been missing on Mount Adams since Sunday, was found just before 7 p.m. Tuesday night alive and with minor injuries. Yakima County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team said they found him on the southwest side of the mountain near Morrison Creek.

“It’s good news,” said Lt. Brian Winter with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. “I’m sure he’s hungry and thirsty though.”

Monday’s search for Baciewicz, 55, had proved fruitless, but search-and-rescue teams regained hope they’d find Baciewicz alive when a friend of his received a text from him early Tuesday morning, Winter said.

Sunday morning, the doctor had separated from a companion who had decided to attempt a more challenging route. Baciewicz missed a trail that would have taken him back to the parking lot and got lost, Winter said

Friends, family and co-workers who had come to join in the search effort were there to greet him after his rescue, Winter added.
