UPDATE: KING5 reports footprint found in hiker search

UPDATE: 8 a.m. | KING5: Searchers say they have found a footprint in the snow that could belong to missing hiker John Wright.

Original post: Searchers continued Sunday to scour the Cascade foothills for an experienced hiker missing since Friday.

Several rescuers were airlifted into “challenging terrain” based on a tip from a hiker who said he passed the missing man, John Wright of University Place, on a trail Friday.

The tip was credible, said Sgt. Cindi West of the King C0unty Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the search in a “pretty treacherous area” of the Green Mountain section of Snoqualmie National Forest.

“Our hope is he got stuck, his cellphone died, and he’s waiting to be rescued,” West said Sunday.

By Sunday evening, rescuers remained on the mountain and were “regrouping” in preparation for a major effort on Monday morning, West said.

Searchers found the Nissan Xterra driven by Wright, 50, near the middle fork of the Snoqualmie River. His wife said he is an avid hiker who always carried a blanket and extra food and water.
