Seattle Police investigating UW police employee

The Seattle Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation into an alleged incident that involved a six-year veteran of the University of Washington Police Department.

The UWPD placed the employee on administrative leave on Thursday.

UWPD Commander Steve Rittereiser said the department was doing an administrative investigation into an incident when information emerged that the incident could involve a criminal act. Rittereiser said he could not be more specific about the nature of the crime, or the employee’s job, because it is a personnel matter.

“One of the parties indicated a crime had occurred, and that’s when the administrative process stopped,” he said. At that point, the department asked Seattle Police to investigate.

He said he did not know when the investigation would be finished.
