5-acre Shoreline beach park fire contained

Shoreline firefighters have gained almost full control of a 5-acre brush fire at Richmond Saltwater Beach Park that started around 7:30 p.m., according to the department.

The cause of the blaze, which was concentrated near the park’s overpass bridge, is not known yet, according to the Shoreline Fire Department.

Firefighters were challenged by shifting winds but were able to keep the fire from threatening the bridge, nearby homes and other private property. At one point, the fire lit off a colorful stash of fireworks that had been hidden in the park.

The fire turned colorful when it reached a stash of fireworks near the park’s bridge. (Walter Zamojski)
