SUV hits boy on bicycle in Auburn

An elderly woman driving an SUV struck an 11-year-old boy bicycling in the 1200 block of Auburn Way South at 2:45 p.m. today, according to the Auburn Police Department.

The SUV dragged the child 20 to 30 feet after the driver failed to see him in a crosswalk as she turned left from 12th Street Southeast, according to Cmdr. Mike Hirman of the Auburn Police Department.

The boy, who sustained head and body lacerations, was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment, but is expected to survive, Hirman said.

Police cited the driver for failure to cede right of way to someone in a crosswalk.
