Downed tree closes highway 522 in Lake Forest Park, cuts power to some

Seattle City Light crews work to remove one of two toppled power poles in the 16700 block of State Route 522 in Lake Forest Park on Thursday morning. A large tree fell overnight knocking out power and snarling the Thursday morning commute. (Photo by Mike Siegel / The Seattle Times)

UPDATED: Seattle City Light spokesman Scott Thomsen said all but about 160 customers in Lake Forest Park and Northeast Shoreline should have power again any minute, but Highway 522 will remain closed until about 3:30 while crews continue to clear low-hanging power and phone lines knocked loose by a tree overnight.

At one point, 7,500 people were without power after 11 p.m. Wednesday, when the outage was first reported. Thomsen said the utility had hoped to be finished with its work so at least one lane of Bothell Way could be open before lunchtime. That was delayed by additional low-hanging lines. The new estimate is that all lanes will be closed until about 3:30 p.m.
