Hansen buys another Sodo parcel, site of Showbox theater

Investor Chris Hansen and his partners have acquired another chunk of the site of their proposed Sodo basketball and hockey arena.

At entity controlled by Hansen paid $8 million Tuesday for the half-acre property at First Avenue South and South Massachusetts Street where the Showbox SoDo theater now stands, according to county records.

With several properties still to be acquired, the arena backers already have spent $35.2 million for land between Massachusetts and South Holgate Street where the arena would be built. They have paid another $13.7 million for properties on the block just to the north.

Hansen said this spring that all 8 acres needed for the arena were under contract or otherwise under his control.
