UPDATE: Sammamish girl choked to death by jump-rope

UPDATE AT 12:13 P.M. WEDNESDAY:  The King County Sheriff’s Office now says that the girl was 4 years old, not 7.

ORIGINAL POST: A 7-year-old Sammamish girl was found dead  after being choked by her jump-rope Tuesday evening, according to King County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl had been playing with the jump-rope on a Samantha Smith Elementary School playground with her twin brother and a babysitter, said Sgt. Cindi West. When she started playing with it around her neck, the babysitter told her not to.

The brother and the babysitter went to pick blackberries, they found her unconscious and face down on a playground slide with the jump-rope around her neck, West said. Medics rushed her to Overlake Hospital Medical Center, but were unable to revive her.

West said the girl’s death appears to be an accident.

The case remains under investigation.
