UPDATE: 11:30 a.m. | A bystander and the wife of a man drowned in Lake Washington at Denny Park in Kirkland last night tried to save him but had to be rescued themselves, according to the Kirkland Fire and Police departments.
The incident occurred about 9 p.m. when the 54-year-old drowning victim was helping to retrieve a ball for someone. While he was able to reach the ball, he began to struggle in the water, according to Kirkland police.
His wife and the bystander tried to save him, but could not.
