UPDATE AT 10:53 A.M.:

The Associated Press and Times staff

The Pierce County sheriff’s office says financial problems and marital issues apparently led a man to kill his wife and daughter overnight at their home in Spanaway.

Capt. Ed Smith says 40-year-old Dean Holmes walked into the jail in Tacoma before 5 a.m. Wednesday and confessed to shooting his wife Kristi, 41, and 11-year-old daughter Violet.

Deputies went to the home in the 15500 block of 20th Avenue Court East and found the bodies, then backed out to obtain a search warrant before looking for evidence.

Holmes has been booked into the Pierce County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder and is expected to make his first court appearance tomorrow.
