Morning Memo / Monday: Hot week … better traffic … the ‘If Project’

Weather:  Remember that end-of-summer story, “Sorry, but summer is almost outta here,” published  last week? Statistics are one thing, actual weather quite another. That story is so last week. We are looking at several days of glorious summer weather, with temperatures in Western Washington in the 90s by Thursday and Friday. And it will be pretty sweet the other days this week.  The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: Most major construction endeavors that tied up traffic this weekend are wrapped up for now. But the I-5 southbound on-ramp from NE 85th St. and the I-5 southbound off-ramp to NE 85th street are closed due to roadwork. And drivers should expect predictable congestion on highways leading into Seattle in advance of tonight’s baseball game at Safeco Field. The game begins at 7:10 p.m. The map and cams.

Debra Heintz, an inmate at the Washington Corrections Center for Women, talks recently during an If Project session about prison and the things she’s missing. The project asks questions of inmates and former inmates, then carries the heartfelt responses to at-risk youth. (Photo by Ellen Banner / The Seattle Times)

Inmates in the “If project” answer questions about what would have made a difference in their lives. They tell their own stories to at-risk kids and hope to have an impact.

Officials are investigating three suspicious fires in Spokane. The fires are suspicious because they broke out around the same time Sunday night. There are no power lines in the area and no reports of lightning at that time.

A man was shot multiple times in Vancouver early this morning. Detectives are looking for a man seen leaving the scene.
