Morning Memo / Tuesday: Low liquor sales … Wildfire … That big snake …

Weather: A bit cooler today than yesterday, mid-70s today. That’s OK. Mid-70s in Seattle is just right, many of you have said. It’s going to get warmer as the week progresses, reaching into the 90s Thursday and Friday. For some of us, that’s a tad too hot. But that beats rain and the mid-60s, right? The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The map and cams.

Firefighters battling the Taylor Bridge wildfire wait at dawn at a burnout line along Pheasant Lane at Reeser Creek Road near Ellensburg. High winds and dry conditions are fueling the fire that had burned nearly 26,000 acres by Tuesday morning. (Photo by Bettina Hansen / The Seattle Times)

The Taylor Bridge wildfire between Cle Elum and Ellensburg has burned 60 homes or other buildings and is endangering many more with reports that that blaze has grown to nearly 26,000 acres. There have been bigger fires but this one is raging in a place where many people live. The wind is blowing there and it is dry and hot. A wet spring caused a lot of plant growth which is now dry and fueling the fire. Perfect conditions for a wildfire.

The second 520 bridge pontoon is scheduled to arrive at the Ballard Locks today.

Liquor sales drop 9.4 percent in June, first month without state stores: What exactly does this mean? People can’t be drinking less, we’re sure… And do you still find it a bit surprising to see Jim Beam or other whiskeys on the shelves of your local supermarket?

We’re leaning toward “icky.” Facebook friends with your doctor: good medicine or ethically ‘icky’?

That big snake in that Seattle park. We know snakes aren’t slimy and that the large Burmese python that got loose in Seattle’s Cowen Park the other day isn’t poisonous, but hey, there’ still a big, snake slithering around Cowen Park! Let’s hope it’s f0und soonest.
