Morning Memo / Tuesday: ELLENSBURG RODEO NOT CANCELED … No rain .. New lumber mill

Weather: Is it true we haven’t had measurable rain for 37 straight days? Is this Seattle? We’re checking it out. It’s expected to be cooler tomorrow and Thursday, but temperatures will start rising going into the Labor Day weekend. The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The good news in the new traffic congestion report is that 2009 saw the least traffic congestion in the past five years. The bad? As the economy has improved, congestion has increased. Well that’s sort of good news and bad news … The state Department of Transportation has the details. The map and cams.

CORRECTION: THE ELLENSBURG RODEO AND KITTITAS COUNTY FAIR ARE NOT CANCELED. A news release that appeared to come from the official rodeo and fair organization — but was not — came to the newspaper saying the events were canceled. THEY ARE NOT! The release claimed the Taylor Bridge wildfire was interfering with the events, and we briefly published that bogus information this morning. HERE IS THE CORRECT LINK TO THE RODEO AND FAIR EVENTS. Here’s a news release from the Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce about the erroneous information that was being distributed.

Isaac Aguigui

Cashmere: That’s the home to the soldier charged in connection with killing a former comrade and suspected in the death of his girlfriend and for allegedly plotting several other attacks, including bombing a dam in Washington and poisoning the state’s apple crop, prosecutors say. How does a young man from Eastern Washington get from there to where he is now? His name is Isaac Aguigui.

Lumber mill to be rebuilt: A Montesano sawmill that was destroyed by fire last Saturday will be rebuilt, according to an official with the lumber operation. That’s good news for the many folks who depended on Mary’s River Lumber for their livelihoods and their local econony.
