Morning Memo/Thursday: Woman dies in pond … Raccoons, rats, coyotes … Super Guppy

Weather: We’re sorry to be repeating ourselves — wait, no we’re not! Another great day is in store. Temperatures should reach the mid-70s, and we’ll have clear skies today and tomorrow. The forecasts call for sun and temperatures in the upper 70s this weekend. Who could ask for more? Camping, fishing, hiking, picnicking, gardening, climbing, here we come! The National Weather Service forecast.

Traffic: The map and cams.

Woman found dead in Sammamish pond: In what appears to be an accident, a woman in her 60s is dead after she fell into a pond in Sammamish, according to KIRO TV. The woman’s body was found by family members after she didn’t return from a walk yesterday. The woman apparently had been sitting on the bank when she slipped into the water. She has not been identified.

Raccoons, rats and coyotes, oh my! Raccoons are menacing folks near North Seattle Community College (Seattle Times); coyotes are roaming and killing pets in West Seattle (West Seattle Blog) and rats are running rampant on Bainbridge Island (Kitsap Sun). What gives?

Super Guppy: The big old Super Guppy flies into Seattle late this morning with the last section of NASA’s  space shuttle trainer. If you haven’t seen the oddly shaped Guppy, you might want to have a gander when it flies into town. The trainer is being reassembled for eventual display at the Museum of Flight.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is in Bellevue today on behalf of gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna and other Republican candidates.

UW grad and Richland native Hope Solo will be in goal as the U.S. women’s Olympic soccer team goes for the gold in the final with Japan today.
