Park rangers recover body on Mount Rainier

The Associated Press

Rangers at Mount Rainier National Park have recovered a male body that may be one of four climbers missing since January storms.

Park spokeswoman Patti Wold says a party descending from Camp Muir spotted the body late Monday. Rangers carried the unidentified man on a litter down the mountain Tuesday.

Wold says melting snow revealed the body, which appeared to have been under snow for some time. No additional bodies or evidence were found in the area.

Warm weather is expected to continue melting snow in the area and may uncover evidence related to the missing climbers.

The man’s identity will be released by the Pierce County Medical Examiner.
