Perhaps the smash-and-grab thief who broke into the Mariners team store at Safeco Field early this morning didn’t know the bargain facing him.
The 16 Ichiro jerseys he stole, which normally retail for $240 apiece, were recently reduced in price by 50 percent.
“They were very specific,” said store supervisor Chris French. “We are thinking they had scoped it out before.”
Police were called to the shop at 1250 First Ave. S. around 4:15 a.m in response to a report of the burglary, said SPD spokeswoman Renee Witt.
Officers found jerseys strewn about on the sidewalk outside the broken window. Witt said the burglars may have used a brick to smash the window.
Glass that had sprayed inside the store was quickly cleaned up, the broken glass was boarded and business was brisk at 11 a.m. when Mariners ticket holders streamed through on their way to today’s game.
Police say they don’t have a description of the burglar.
