The tall ship Lady Washington arrives for Labor Day weekend

The Lady Washington, the state’s official ship, is viewed from the Aurora Bridge as it arrives Monday in Lake Union, en route to the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland, where it will be docked for Labor Day-weekend activities.

The ship, based in Aberdeen, will be available for tours from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday while moored at Marina Park (25 Lake Shore Plaza, Kirkland). The ship accommodates 60 to 100 visitors an hour, and complimentary half-hour tours.

There also will be two free sailings. The first is an educational sail from 9 a.m. to noon, where children can learn about life at sea and basic navigation skills. A second sail, from 6 to 8 p.m., will allow visitors to participate in ship operations, from raising the sails to taking the helm. Mock battles and Lake Washington tours also will be offered at the Woodmark this weekend.

To purchase tickets and find out more about the free sailings, visit http://tallshipskirkland.eventbrite.com.
