Trooper car hits man on Interstate 5 in Mount Vernon

A Washington State Patrol trooper car hit and killed a man on the Interstate 5 Tuesday night in Mount Vernon, according to Washington State Trooper Keith Leary.

As a trooper car headed for a southbound I-5 exit ramp for East College Way at about 9:45 p.m.,  he hit a male pedestrian wearing dark clothes, Leary said. The pedestrian, who troopers have not identified yet, was crossing the southbound lanes from left to right, he said.

“At this point, we don’t know what the intention of the pedestrian was,” Leary said. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of this person. We don’t take things like this lightly because it’s obviously not what we want to have happen when we’re out here.”
