Wednesday garbage to be picked up Saturday

Garbage haulers in parts of King and Snohomish County are trying to catch up after an eight-day garbage strike.

Waste Management garbage, recycling and food/yard waste haulers will collect on Saturday those customers missed on Wednesday because of the strike. Cans should be left out until 6 p.m.

Friday customers should have gotten service. If not, the city asks residents to leave out their bins until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Most recycling was missed Thursday. Those customers should put out all recycling next Thursday, Aug. 9.

Customers will not be charged for any additional items placed at the curb, said Andy Ryan, spokesman for Seattle Public Utilities, which contracts for waste hauling.

City transfer stations will continue to accept up to six bags of garbage and yard waste through the weekend at no charge. Hours have been extended at the South Transfer Station only, to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
