One boater is dead and two others were rescued today when their boat overturned near Ledbetter Point at the entrance to Willapa Bay.
A family member called the Coast Guard Tuesday evening to say the boaters, who set out from Tokeland to fish, were overdue, according to the Coast Guard. The boaters, who were in a 24-foot recreational boat, usually return from such trips about 9 p.m.
The Coast Guard launched lifeboats from Ilwaco and Grays Harbor and a helicopter from Astoria, Ore. Beach searchers also were sent out.
Two of the boaters were located about 7:15 this morning by the helicopter, hoisted to safety and taken to the hospital.
The third boater did not survive the accident, but the circumstance of that person’s death weren’t immediately available.
