Cougar grabs, kills retriever in North Bend area

A North Bend-area man awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of his aged golden retriever yelping as it was attacked and dragged into the woods by a cougar.

A neighbor, Tom Owens, says his friend, the dog owner, called him Wednesday morning, asked him to bring his rifle and the two men went looking for the dog.

Owens tells KIRO-TV they found the retriever dead and buried under some brush.

Owens says when his friend heard the commotion about 3 a.m. he went to his window and watched the big cat drag his dog away.

KIRO reports the men took the dog’s body back to the house in a tarp.
