Hiker’s body recovered near Index

UPDATE 2:15 p.m. | Snohomish County’s Search and Rescue Unit has recovered the body of the hiker, according to Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton.

EARLIER POST |

Snohomish County’s Search and Rescue Unit plans to resume its efforts to recover the body of a hiker this morning.

The victim, a 30-year-old Everett man, went hiking with his brother on Saturday near Merchant Peak east of Index when they became separated, according to Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton. The missing man’s brother called 911 when he failed to turn up later.

Rescue crews were called out on Saturday and resumed the search yesterday, when they found the man’s body in what was described as treacherous terrain. Search-and-rescue personnel were unable to recover the man’s body yesterday and will resume the effort at first light this morning, Ireton said.
