Driver dies after hitting JBLM gate station

A driver died shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday after hitting a guard station at Joint Base Lewis McChord.

Base spokesman Joe Kubistek said the car was leaving the base through the East Gate when it hit a guard facility no longer being used.

The driver, alone at the time, died at the scene.  There were no injuries to anyone working in the area,  Kubistek said.  Traffic was being diverted around the scene for an investigation.
