A man who stripped naked and allegedly spent more than two hours swimming away from Seattle police officers in Green Lake Tuesday afternoon was today ordered held on investigation of second- and third-degree assault against two teens and police, according to court documents.
The man is being held without bail in a King County Jail for the alleged unprovoked attack on a teenage brother and sister in Green Lake Park walkway near Ashworth Avenue North. He pounced on the two like a linebacker, according to one witness, breaking a finger and busting the lip of the 19-year-old man and scraping the knee of his 16-year-old sister.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the man then stripped naked and swam around Green Lake in an attempt to evade police. During the more than two-hour effort to take him into custody, police say the man twice slapped one officer across the face, wrestled with another, raised large rocks over his head and threw them and used a large stick to fight off officers.
Officers eventually closed in on him on Duck Island.
The man was not speaking coherently after his arrest and was taken to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
Police are still verifying the man’s identity after finding no records for the two names he gave to police.
A bond hearing is scheduled for the man tomorrow afternoon at the King County Jail.
