Road closures this weekend mean you’ll want to plan ahead

Some road closures and several events in Seattle this weekend could cause some traffic tie-ups, so the Seattle and state transportation departments are urging you to plan ahead.

The Mariners and Sounders are playing in Sodo, there’s a gymnastics show at KeyArena, and the St. Demetrios Greek Festival will be in full swing in the Montlake neighborhood.

Couple those with the closure of the 520 floating bridge from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday and a few other road closures, and you might find yourself in a traffic jam.

— The 520 floating bridge will be closed in both directions Saturday and Sunday from Montlake Boulevard in Seattle to Interstate 405 in Bellevue. Along with that will be the last full closure of Lake Washington Boulevard East through the Washington Park Arboretum  from 6 a.m. to no later than 5 p.m. each day Saturday and Sunday. The closure will extend from Foster Island Road on the north to East Madison Street on the south.

— The I-5 on- and off-ramps will be closed at Mercer Street from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday. (The I-5 on-ramp at University Street will also be closed to provide more efficient traffic flow around the closed Mercer Street exit lane.)

— Traffic on Pike Street in Seattle will be detoured at Broadway from 5 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday to allow construction of the First Hill Streetcar. Traffic will be maintained on Broadway, but no left turns will be allowed at Pike Street.  East and west traffic on Pike will be required to turn right at Broadway.

Sporting events to be aware of include:

A Sounders match at Century Link Field at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Three Mariners games at Safeco Field: 7:10 p.m. Friday, 6:10 p.m. Saturday and 1:10 p.m. Sunday.
