Seattle attorney jailed in rapes of massage therapists

A man booked into the King County Jail early Tuesday on investigation of rape is suspected of sexually assaulting massage therapists in Seattle and Bellevue at knife point.

According to Seattle police, employees of Carnation Massage Clinic at 602 N.W. 85th Street called 911 Monday night to report that a suspect who had recently assaulted a therapist had returned. Other employees chased down the man, who had fled on foot. He was caught a short distance later and then taken into police custody.

It is not clear when the sexual assault occurred.

Carla Iafrate, spokeswoman for the Bellevue Police Department, said Tuesday that the same man is suspected of raping a massage therapist in that city at knifepoint last month.

In the Bellevue incident, a man had scheduled an appointment with the victim at her massage therapy office near the 15200 block of Northeast 20th Street. During the session the man started to make sexual advances towards the 45-year-old massage therapist. When she refused, the man became angry, threatened her with a pocket knife and sexually assaulted her, police said at the time.

According to jail and public records, the rape suspect is a partner in a Seattle law firm. He also  worked in the Seattle City Attorney’s Office several years ago.

The suspect is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

The Seattle Times does not typically identify crime suspects until either a judge finds probable cause to hold the suspect, or charges are filed.
