Sheriff: Arlington sniper acted alone

The man who opened fire in the woods outside Arlington, wounding one man, apparently acted alone, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

The man armed with a rifle was found fatally shot around 8 last night. Sheriff’s deputies, as well as police from Everett, Lynnwood and Edmonds then launched a search for a possible accomplice but the search was called off around 11:30 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office has not said whether deputies shot the man.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Dittoe said the incident started around 1:30 p.m. when a man walking near Jim Creek was hit in the leg by gunfire, then “reported hearing multiple gunshots from the woods.” The wounded man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.

During the search for the gunman several vehicles were hit by gunfire.

The investigation into the shooting will resume this morning.
