Shoreline woman arrested in homicide to be released

A woman who was arrested on Thursday after she fatally shot a man in the yard of her Shoreline home will be released from jail, the King County Sheriff’s Office said today.

Detectives are investigating the 26-year-old woman’s claims that she shot the man self-defense,  according to Dan Donohoe, a spokesman for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

King County Sheriff Steve Strachan said  deputies arrived at the home in the 1600 block of North 145th Street at 11:54 a.m. on Thursday to find a man in his 40’s dead in the yard. Neighbors who called police said they’d heard arguing, following by several “popping sounds,” Strachan said.

The gun used in the shooting was recovered and two people, a man and the 26-year-old woman, were taken into custody for questioning, Strachan said.

Later, the woman was booked into King County Jail on investigation of second-degree murder, but prosecutors said she will be released today.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, but the Sheriff’s Office said he did not live in the home.
