The King County Sheriff’s Office said a woman was raped in her Shoreline home early Sunday morning while her two young children slept in the same room.
The victim had just moved into the family’s new home with her husband and children only a few weeks ago, sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West said.
The victim and her two children, ages 7 and 3, were asleep in the main bedroom around 4 a.m. Sunday when the intruder entered the home in the 1000 block of Northeast 175th Street and sexually assaulted the woman, West said. The fought the suspect, and investigators were able to collect blood from the rapist, West said.
He is believed to have gotten in through an unlocked or unsecured door, she said.
The man fled when the older child awoke and turned on the light, West said.
“It’s extremely bold to go into a house where a woman is in bed with her children and assault her,” said West.
She said the victim and her family have since moved back to California.
West said the rapist has some distinctive characteristics. “He appeared to be Hispanic, but he spoke some broken Vietnamese,” she said. She said the victim’s primary language is Vietnamese and the suspect spoke to her in that language, but not fluently.
The suspect was described as having a shaved head with dark stubble and was about 5-feet-6 and and around 30 years old. He smelled strongly of cigarettes and was wearing light-washed blue jeans and a dark T-shirt, West said.
